Sushi Date

The MFT Sushi Date stamp and die set is part of the March release this month. I really love the MFT products; they are a favorite for me.  When I saw the Sushi Date set, I couldn’t resist.  I have a sushi lover in the family, so he will be getting many sushi themed cards and tags in the future, lol.

I did some simple coloring with Copic markers on the card; I also used a little bit of Distress Ink in the background.  I am glad I bought the dies with this set since so many of the elements are tiny little parts.  I also used some of the new black and white 6×6 papers from MFT.  This paper pad will be very versatile in my card making process.

Choose Crazy

I made an impromptu visit to the city on the weekend to help out my number one son; he is getting ready to move to another province in a few months and I gave him some help with a few things.  We also took some time to visit and take this Snapchat picture!  I was bugging him that he would have to get the App before he moves so that we can use Snapchat to communicate once he has moved.  I am not looking forward to this move; my kids have always lived near by and I don’t think I am going to handle this very well.  There will be lots of trips to Ontario in the future!

I created this layout using the Dear Lizzy collection, Lovely Day.  I have quite a bit of the collection still and wanted to use more of it up.  The fox paper is so adorable and I love the colors.  I just thought the fox theme went well with the Snapchat filter, so I went with it.  I am also using a cool sketch that I pinned from Pinterest.  Here are some photos and the video process link.

Favorite

I love this photo I used for this layout…a shot of my mom with B when B was around four years old.  They both look like they are just played right out and need a break from the fun of camping.  We used to have so much fun on our family camping trips.  I miss that and I know my kids do too.

I used my inexpensive watercolor palette from Michael’s for this project as well as some stamps from my stash.  I like the result and I hope it inspires you to try something like this on a project.  It is a super easy way to add something a little different.  You do not need many supplies to create a layout like this.  Here are some photos of the layout and a link to the video.

So Lovely

I love to use mixed media on my scrap book pages, especially with a subtle patterned paper.  This Maggie Holmes paper from Chasing Dreams is just sublime, and perfect for adding a little gesso and some Inklingz from Shimmerz.  I added the mixed media and some sewing with gold thread, a few die cuts that I made with my Big Shot and a few other little bits and pieces and voila!  I like how this turned out.  Documenting a moment from Bailey’s nursing grad when my two favorite girls posed for the camera.  Love it!

Glimmer and Shine

There are so many new and fun products coming out all of the time…it’s super hard on my bank account, lol.  Nuvo has been introducing a bunch of cool new stuff over the last year or so.  One such product is the Glimmer Paste.  It has some properties I really love; the first is the sparkle and the second is that it dries very fast.  When creating a project, it’s nice to work with a paste that doesn’t take forever to set up.

I created a card this weekend using the Moonstone Glimmer Paste as a background element.  I used a stencil to apply the paste with a plastic spatula.  I really like the detail it added to my card.  Here are some photos and a link to the process video.

Scrap the Challenge #30: London Kit Challenge

This week Kelly Barron and I created layouts with the Felicity Jane London Kit as our challenge for episode #30 of Scrap the Challenge.  We started this collaboration in March of 2016…crazy that we have done 30 challenges in that time!  It has been a lot of fun, not just scrap booking, but fostering a new friendship with someone thousands of kilometers away.  Just another positive thing about technology 🙂

Here is my layout for this week and a link to the process video.  Thanks for stopping by!

Leaving Home

I finally got back to art journaling last weekend…you know what? …it was so awesome 🙂

It’s been waaaay too long!  The process of art journaling is just so very therapeutic for me.  I had some things I needed to just work out and I always find that art journaling helps me to do that.

I do really love to just get into my products and go for it.  I don’t always know where the process is going, but I find a way to work  through my supplies to create something fun.  I felt like using some watercolors on this project, so I chose a watercolor field book in large format as a base for the journal entry.  The paper in this book is 140 lb. cold press; it has a nice tooth to it and takes the watercolors like a champ, lol.  I hope you are inspired to get out your mixed media products and get messy!

Always You

I had a chance to do a complete layout using the Oh My Heart collection this week…this is such a beautiful collection designed by Paige Taylor Evans for Pink Paislee. I chose a sketch from Pinterest (PageMaps) as inspiration for the sketch and a cut file from the Silhouette Design Store.

I printed the photo at 4×6, but then cut it down slightly to fit the photo area.  I matted the photo on white card and some patterned papers from both Fancy Free and Oh My Heart.

I love this photo of the kids; it captures the moment nicely and expresses a lovely sentiment!

Mari

Hello Today

I have been off on winter break this week and that has meant some time to catch up on photos I have been wanting to scrap and a few other things that I need to get done…funny how the income tax paperwork and house cleaning falls to the bottom of the priority list 🙂  Oh well, it will get done…sooner or later!

The Chasing Dreams collection just keeps calling me back to my studio.  What a beautiful collection.  I think it is my all time favorite from Maggie Holmes.  It doesn’t have the dominant cream tones as much this time; it has more pure white mixed in and that is a big draw for me.  I like to work on white cardstock, so it’s just easier to make the patterned papers work with the white.

I wanted to scrap this photo of Bailey and her girlfriends in Cuba…after the big proposal.  It is such a cute photo!  I used a cut file from Just Nick Studios for the title and backed it with patterned paper. All of the embellishments are from Chasing Dreams.
