Carta Bella “Hello Fall”

There is something so very appealing to me about fall this year…I think it might be the result of a scorching hot prairie summer with little rain…or the fact that fall will bring winter, winter will bring Christmas and Christmas will bring my boy home to me again!! My layout today is about being thankful for having this lad in my life and for the knowledge that he has settled into his new home and seems to be happy.  We miss him so much…I have to say I really understand how my mom used to miss my sister when she moved thousands of miles away.  It is not a good feeling.  But I am hoping it is temporary and we will savor our video chats and times together even more.

Now for the layout…I used the gorgeous Carta Bella “Hello Fall” collection on this layout. This is a stunning collection!  Check out the beautful papers in the layout…the texture, colors and designs are just lovely.

I used a Tim Holtz mask on the kraft cardstock and some gold Color Shine to create the harlequin pattern on the background.

Maggie Holmes “Carousel”

Wow, what a crazy, busy, good summer it has been…but sadly in just one day it is back to work for me.  I have not had much time at all this summer for creative projects; however, I am looking forward to getting back in the groove and making some cool stuff!

Not long ago, I received the amazing Carousel collection.  Once again, Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper have created a beautiful product that has captured my imagination.  I love the soft colors and fun icons that are reminiscent of summer fun…and it doesn’t mean you can only create projects about carousels, lol!

The photo I am scrapping today is from a trip we took this summer to Kingston, Ontario.  What a fun trip and beautiful city!  It was great to do and see lots of cool stuff…which I will be documenting over the course of the next few weeks.

Summer Trip

Italy in the summer time…let’s all pause and enjoy that thought, lol. My son and his gf traveled to Italy for two weeks recently, making their way virtually from the top to bottom of the beautiful countryside. They did so many fun things and were so gracious to send me photos!!

I had to scrap this selfie they took on a balcony of the Victor Emmanuel II monument in Rome; Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II is an enormous white marble monument that dominates Piazza Venezia and was built as a tribute to the first king of a united Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. It’s a good picture of these two!

I have used the Summer cut file from JustNick Studio as well as Take me to Paradise.  The Summer title piece is a major feature on the layout; backing a cut file with patterned paper for a title is a great way to occupy the real estate of a layout and make an impact…and create a great title! I love how this looks.  I used some gold glitter paper to cut the foliage pieces from Take me to Paradise as accents around the photo.

Felicity Jane Kits/Stash

I subscribed to the Felicity Jane kits for about a year and absolutely loved the product.  Sadly, my kit budget ran out; however, I have a good sized stash of FJ kit products to use up.  It’s a goal of mine to do just that…so I created a layout today primarily using products from the kits.

I sized my photo to 3.5×2.5 using my Epson Photomate printer.  I just wanted the one photo on my layout.  Someone asked me recently over on YouTube why I often just use one photo on a layout and not a 4×6.  It’s just a style that I enjoy…no other reason really.  I don’t have a ton of current photos to use, so often times I have a limited supply.  When I do have multiple photos to use of an event, I will often do a pocket scrapbooking page instead.  I don’t often film those processes unless it is for a mini album.

I used just a few papers from the kits and some of the embellishments for my layout, but I got a few more things used up!!

Pink, Green and Flamingoes??

Sometimes inspiration for projects comes from a variety of places…today’s project was inspired by Pinterest home decor, patterned paper and my photographs.

I love the cactus flamingoes, black and white print and light pink in home decor trends right now.  Follow that up with the gorgeous patterned papers from Crate Paper Oasis and you have the main part of the inspiration for my patterns and color scheme on my layout today.

I love the photos the kids sent me from their weekend, too!  They had such a great time enjoying the Canadian outdoors!!

JustNick DT Layout #1

I am so excited to be part of the JustNick Design Team this term!! Nicole’s cut files are amazing…so diverse, fun and creative…there is no end to what can be imagined with these files.

For my first project, I decided to use an older photo of Jordan; this was taken about twenty years ago.  I love how he and the bear are sharing a secret story in this pic…just adorable.  Jordan recently moved two provinces away…that’s far in terms of Canada’s geography.  If I hopped in a car to drive to him, it’s thirty hours one way.  I’m pretty sad…we have always lived nearby each other.  So the theme of this layout and the private journaling on the back are about staying close, no matter how far we might be away from each other physically.  We miss him already, but we will visit as much as we can and Skype lots.

Now for the cut files (all the heart eyes inserted here).  I loooove the Aztec Print Background file and paired it with Cactus Jack to embellish the layout.  Cacti are definitely a popular motif in home decor, etc.  right now, and I love how they look cut from the gold glitter paper.  The Aztec Print creates a bunch of dimension as a base on the Maggie Holmes patterned paper.  This was fun to put together.  I used a Winnie the Pooh quote on the bottom of the layout and some die cuts from Jen Hadfield Homemade.

Lawn Fawn:”Duh-Nuh”

I am a complete and total fan of all things Lawn Fawn!!  Their designs are brilliant and I especially love that you can purchase a smaller set at an excellent price point.  Once such set is the “Duh-Nuh” set…love it!!  There are so many things you can do with this set and pair it up with many other Lawn Fawn products.

The card I made today is very simple: a little Distress Oxide Ink in Broken China and Cracked Pistachio, some Copic markers (N2,N4, N5/YR07,YR12), a few dies from Lawn Fawn and voila…a cute little summery card!

I added some clear drops from Studio Katia, Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents to finish the card.  I purchase virtually all of my supplies from Simon Says Stamp.  It’s one of my favorite on line stores for card making.

Happy Birthday, Canada!!

I love my Canada…I think any Canadian you talk to will say the same!  Today is a lovely day as we celebrate our nation’s 150th birthday.  Kelly Barron and I decided to challenge ourselves to do a patriotic layout this weekend, scrapping about our countries using a patriotic theme.

It was a little tricky since I do not have much red in my stash; however, if you have a silhouette…anything is possible, lol!  I cut my title and some maple leaves using red card stock and an older paper collection called Capture Life from Echo Park.  I am journaling about Canada’s birthday on the front and on the back, where everyone in my family is at/doing this Canada Day, 2017!

Here are some photos and a link to the video!

Have an amazing day, everyone!

Vellum Over Watercolors

I love to use embossing powder on vellum!  This creates such a lovely result, so I decided to use some of my Jane Davenport bright watercolors as a backdrop with the vellum/embossing technique.

I used some Ranger watercolor paper as my base and then did some loose watercolor/smooshing.  I used teal, pink and yellow as my color palette.  For the embossing on vellum, I chose the gorgeous Peony Bouquet stamp set from Altenew…love this set!!  I embossed the images with Gold Enchantment Nuvo embossing powder…so pretty.

I adhered the vellum to the watercolor paper and voila, the card starts to come together.  I finished off the project with some Recollections glitter paper and a thanks die from Simon Says Stamp.

Here are some photos of the project and a link to the YouTube video tutorial:
